Happy 2019! I finished off 2018 by participated in Victoria Johnson’s online Create Christmas class which was fun and full of inspiring ideas for creating holiday themed art. It ran over 3 weeks with a new brief and colour palette each week as well as great industry insights. I lagged a bit in the 3rd week as the festive season took hold, but I still have some great ideas that I will work on to develop more in the future.
Below are some of my illustrations for the first two weeks. With my zebra, I took a South African slant on the more traditional wooden rocking horse motif of classic vintage Christmas imagery. With the horn and red robin completing the classics. And then in the second week the theme was tropical, so I went all out (and strayed a little) with Summer Christmas vibes for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere who are typically hitting the beach and having pool parties this time of year! I was really chuffed that Victoria included this theme as I often feel a bit odd creating snowmen and penguins over our peak summer time! 🙂
I envision the designs could look great on Christmas cards or turned into repeat patterns for wrapping paper. Ilook forward to adding to this collection.
