*New authors who are self-publishing, please be aware that illustrators need to be paid for their work. Illustrators typically do not work on a "let's collaborate, you illustrate for free, and then share the profits if there are any" basis. Illustrators spend months and hundreds of hours on a book and need to be fairly compensated for their expertise and time. If you can't afford to pay an illustrator, wait until you can, or submit your manuscript to a publisher instead. If the publisher wants your story, they will then hire and pay the illustrator and take on the financial risk.
